Frequently asked questions
- How can I permanently stabilize road shoulders?
- With a system like Road Edge Pave. Flexible PE-HD elements with an open-pore framework distribute loads, allow rainwater to infiltrate, and prevent rutting of the shoulder.
- What does "shoulder stabilization" mean for road shoulders?
- It refers to long-term stabilization of road shoulders/side strips, e.g. along asphalt edges, at junctions, roundabouts, or medians - without continuous concrete edging.
- Is Road Edge Pave suitable for truck traffic?
- Yes. With a proper subbase, the system provides a load capacity of up to 3100 kN/m2.
- Can I install it in curves and roundabouts?
- Yes, the elements can be laid seamlessly from straight to a laying radius of up to 9.5 m.
- Do I need concrete or a dedicated drainage layer?
- No. The open-pore structure works like a grass grid and promotes infiltration. What matters is a load-bearing, level subbase and a slight outward crossfall (approx. 1-3%).
- How is the system anchored in the ground?
- Each element has 9 ground crosses (approx. 30 mm) for anchorage, plus interlocking connectors between the plates.
- How does the installation work?
- Prepare the subgrade, install and screed the bedding layer, lay and connect the elements in the direction of travel, fill the cells with 0/16 or 0/22 mm aggregate, then compact and sweep. See the installation guide.
- Is there an installation guide?
- Yes - our installation guide describes all steps from subbase through backfilling to final compaction and sweeping.
- Can road shoulders be greened?
- Yes. The chambers can be filled with soil and grassed - similar to a grass grid. Important: After placing the soil you must top up; you can also slurry first and top up afterwards.
- What are the element dimensions and coverage per piece?
- Approx. 800 x 400 mm; height 50 mm plus 30 mm ground anchors. 1 piece ~ 0.77 m length.
- What material and chemical resistance does the system have?
- Made from pure PE-HD; resistant to oil, fuels, de-icing salt, and many acids.
- How do I treat the asphalt edge at the roadside?
- Install the panels flush with the asphalt surface; keep a gap of about 2-5 cm. Larger joints should be properly sealed with hot or cold asphalt.
- Where can I find the technical data and specification text?
- See the Technical data and the Specification text.
- How much does shoulder stabilization cost?
- That depends on quantity, logistics, and site conditions. Please request a quote.
