Road shoulder after installation - Road Edge Pave

Installation guide

Installation guide

How to stabilize the road shoulder with Road Edge Pave.

1

Prepare the subbase

Construct the subbase so that all traffic loads are permanently absorbed without settlement. The plates can be installed in single or multiple rows. Check bearing capacity locally to select the correct excavation depth.

Provide a trench about 45 cm wide. With sufficiently bearing soil, a depth of 12–20 cm is usually enough. If more than 20 cm is required, install an additional base course (0/32 mineral mix).

2

Compact the excavation

Compact the soil with suitable equipment. If a base course was installed, compact it thoroughly to achieve an even, bearing subbase.

3

Create the bedding layer

Install a bedding layer (0/16 or 0/22 mm mineral mix) 8–15 cm thick. Level to profile with a crossfall of about 1–3% outward for drainage.

4

Lay the plates

Install in the direction of travel. Insert connector elements diagonally from above into the already laid plate and set the required angle. Press the ground crosses into the bedding by pressure. Regularly check height against the asphalt surface and adjust if needed.

  • Gap between asphalt edge and plate: 2–5 cm. Larger gaps must be closed properly with hot or cold asphalt.
  • If no back support is present, create it from stable material and compact carefully.
  • At the start and end of the protected section, install 1–3 additional plates for a clean transition.
  • Tip for curves: Couple the elements on the asphalt to the correct radius first, then pull the unit into the curve.
5

Backfilling

Use slightly moistened, crushed mineral mix 0/16 or 0/22 mm. Fill to about 2–3 cm above the plate surface.

6

Compaction

Compact the area evenly. This presses the mineral mix firmly into the chambers and permanently fixes the construction, creating a closed, load-bearing surface.

7

Sweeping

After compaction, sweep excess mineral mix to the back. The surface is cleanly finished and loose material removed.
